Phone Chargers Go Universal
A group of 17 companies, including Nokia, Samsung and Motorola, agreed to standardize cellphone chargers by 2012 so they could be interchangeable.
This is a much more significant story than we might think. Margins on the accessories market for handset manufacturers by far dwarfs the big ticket items on average (think volume, lifecycle, subsidies, etc.). The fact that branded - and soon thereafter unbranded - chargers will be homogenized will mark a move for manufacturers into higher-end accessories such as cradles, bluetooth headsets, USB cables and others.
